About

Patrycja Okrutna is an interior designer and have a local company based in Warsaw. She is designing high-budgets interiors for individual wealthy clients. As an interior designer, she needed a website, where she could present her portfolio.

My role

I was responsible of designing and building portfolio website. This started with business and competition analysis followed by wireframes, logo design and user interface design and finally building the website in the WordPress engine.

Design Process

Research

The first thing was the interview with the stakeholder in order to know the business goals and the requirements for the project. Then, when I get all the important information, I started my work with desk research.

I made my competition analysis based on the websites of the top interior designers based in Warsaw. I collected inspirations of: page layouts, presentation of the offer, and presentation of the portfolio. I analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of the collected solutions and I conducted attractiveness tests on the few chosen layout’s.
Because of limited budget I conducted the test on the group of 3 people, who are my friends and agreed to take part in the test.

I prepared two scenarios. For the first task I chose three websites that I wanted to test for attractiveness of presenting the offer. The study participants had to find an offer on the website and say what exactly the company offers. After seeing three different websites, they had to assess the attractiveness of the way the offer was presented and indicate which way seemed to them the most attractive.

For the second task I chose three websites that I wanted to test for attractiveness of presenting the portfolio. The participants had to find a portfolio on the website and say which project in portfolio they like the most. After seeing three different websites, they had to assess the attractiveness and usability of the way the portfolio was presented on each website and indicate which way seemed to them the most attractive.

Wireframes

Based on findings from my completion analysis and the attractiveness tests I sketched the wireframes and presented them to the stakeholder.

Logo design

Before drawing the first sketches of logo I made a research and collected the inspiration for the logo and discuss them with the stakeholder. Because Patrycja is the face of the company I wanted the logo to represent her image. We decided that we want to go in the direction of something light, delicate and feminine but in the same time classy and elegant. After few iteration and attractiveness test the final version has been selected.

Colors

The main colors of the visual design are gold, light, elegant gray and white. The most important things in designing the visuals were the proportions of colors and the subtle nuances. The play of the delicate gold and dark-gray typography on the light-gray surface. All of this harmonized with the interior photos – is giving the elegant and posh impression.

Typography

Selected fonts are light and sans serif. They correspond with the logo design and make the website look elegant.

Mock-ups

Below I’m presenting main page layout in three resolutions: desktop, tablet and mobile.
